WOMYN WARRIORS/MUJERES GUERRERAS CELEBRATION 2007   With the blessing of Ochosi (the Orisha of justice & two spirit), Casa dedicates these awards to the LGBTQ people of color community, and their allies. Inspired by the indigenous manifestation of gender Two-Spirit community, we are inviting you to celebrate with us our ability to transcend gender stereotyping and dare to be fully one-self, fully human as spirit intended. Casa’s definition of Two-Spirit serves a couple of purposes: “Spirit Transcending Gender” 1. Every "thing" and Every "one" is a living manifestation of Spirit (Two spirit = spirit has no gender--honoring indigenous LGBTQ communities definition and celebration of our communities ability to transcend in and out of the spirit and the human world) 2. The diversity of spirituality is to be honored and celebrated through rituals, dance and ceremony (Two spirit = our communities ability to use spirituality as a form of resistance and struggle (ie: Altars, yoruba, elements, drumming, prayer etc) 3. The expression of one's whole gender must be intuitive, fluid, and in a perpetual state of becoming. There can be no rules to govern how Spirit must manifest. 4. We are deities. We are Spirit manifesting in human forms. Let us live that truth, and help everyone see the beauty and strength that lies beyond the constraints of gender. And let us give thanks for the unique opportunity to do so.(Two spirit as in spirit can manifest itself in whatever shape or form we come in, bio women, trans womyn lesbian, bisexual, intersex , same gender loving, two spirit, non-gendered, bi-gendered, andro, and gender non conforming as well as other identities of peoples who face gender oppression because of their non- convention gender expression.. A Call for Nominations Nominate yourself or a person (family member, teachers, activist, organizer, friend, co-worker, neighbor, etc.) in your life or program whose spirit has transcended gender & sexuality. Do you know a person in your life that has inspired you, celebrated you, and/or supported & contributed to the powerful person you are? A person who... • Is a Spiritual warrior who declares that tolerance is not enough & fights for human rights, access to reproductive health, healthcare and ownership of our bodies • Is going beyond gender roles and moving beyond fear & powerlessness to be visible & free no matter what! • Whose every essence is fighting social justice against patriarchy, homophobia, & racism • Are determining their own lives while creating and shifting the definition of family. • Who celebrates humanity, refuses to be invisible & is transforming power! • Is creating justice and liberated spaces, creating FREEDOM This is a call for unity and for an awakening to Spirit that is totally non-denominational, non gender conforming, intended only to serve each of us as the unique and gifted beings we are.
